Camille Co Talks Me-Time, Loving Her Baby Bump & Postpartum Care

Between running The Canton Club restaurant and furniture store Curio Cavern, and being a mother to 3-month-old Sienna, it’s amazing how Camille Co-Koro still has the time to manage a social media career. The Chinese-Filipino content creator and entrepreneur documents day-to-day adventures—including vibrant, stylish ensembles!—on her Instagram, and shares vlogs to her 192,000 subscribers on Youtube.

Below, get to know Camille as she talks about balancing work, family and me-time, tips for postpartum care and keeping her skin flawless.

What are three things people should know about you?

I’m loyal, truthful and joyful. I think I have to put that last part in because this is what my husband always says he loves the most about me—my being joyful! 

How do you find the time to balance family and your pursuits? What about factoring in self-care and me-time in your daily routine?

I’m a new mom. I’m sure other moms would agree with me when I say sticking to a schedule is near impossible when you’re with a newborn. So what’s been really helping me instead is not managing my schedule but managing my expectations. I try to schedule time in for work and time for myself, but I do all this while knowing there’s a big chance my schedule won’t be fixed and it’s okay. I go with the flow and take my little wins, whatever my newborn allows for me to do. This way I take out the frustration. I don’t get disappointed when I’m not able to do the million things I wanted to do. It’s important to cut yourself and your little one some slack. Generally, I try to work and have my me-time when she’s asleep. It also helps that I have a really supportive husband so I get to do my own thing too. 

Talk us through your skincare routine and your favourite beauty products.

My morning skincare routine has been simplified to cleanse, tone and moisturise. Mornings are usually busier for me so I do most of my skincare and take my time during the night instead. So in the morning, I use ZO Skin Health’s exfoliating cleanser—my all-time fave. Then I tone with UMA Ultimate Brightening Rose Toner. I actually just started using this and have been loving it. And then finally, I moisturise with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream. 

I use the same cleanser and toner at night but add the FEMMUE Lumiere Vital C Serum and COSRX Blemish Spot Clearing Serum. Both are really light and easy to apply. If I have any blemishes I need to spot treat, I also use the CommonLabs’ Vitamin E spot cream. 

My under-eyes get love and care both day and night! I use the Biossance Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel for the daytime and FillMed Skin Perfusion HRX Eye Cream in the nighttime. 

How much time do you have now to get ready in the morning, in comparison to before? Has your beauty regime changed much since becoming a mother?

Very little time. It’s a very quick turnaround for me. Maybe 15 minutes? And it’s not just with a shorter routine in general but also with the type of products I use.

Any tips to share for postpartum care? 

Go for simple and effective products that have been tried and tested. This isn’t the time to experiment. You need something that you know works for your skin. 

What are some measures you’ve taken to prevent stretch marks?

I honestly believe that likelihood of getting stretch marks lie heavily on genetics. My mom didn’t have any so I didn’t have any too while I was pregnant. However, I still did apply Mederma’s stretch mark cream. I would also sometimes apply Clarins Body Treatment Oil. 

Did you struggle with your body image during pregnancy or after childbirth?

Not at all—I loved my pregnancy body! I was head over heels in love with my bump. I never felt more confident with my body than when I was pregnant. Now that I’m several months postpartum, I still have a tiny bump in my tummy and it’s okay. I was just telling my husband it sometimes feels weird looking in the mirror and seeing myself with a belly, knowing I’m no longer pregnant. I’ve always had a slim and pretty fit physique, so I’ve never really had flab around the belly but you know what? It’s okay!

Just as it was a process to get pregnant and give birth, going back to my old body will be a process too and I shouldn’t rush the process. 

Do you any advice to share with new moms who aren’t feeling as beautiful or comfortable with their post-baby appearance?

Moms, trust the process. Trust your body. Your body got you through this major life change. It went through a lot! So listen to your body. It needs rest, to recuperate and to sustain the life you just made. So don’t be too hard on yourself and your body. You’re beautiful, and you’re amazing!

What are your goals in the future? What are you working towards?

My goals are still very much the same pre and postpartum—to be able to grow my businesses and push my career forward at the same time. It’s just that now I’ve got more motivation to do well because of my little nugget.
